How to make money in Torncity
By General_Storm [193057]. Edited and updated by Wollongong [12833] Money is what makes the world go round. In Torn City, that is not different. But how are you ever going to make money, if all you find under that bridge is a measly $6? CrimesYou should do your crimes. That is good income. Visit the crimes-reference sheet for a breakdown of money you earn for each crime.
JobsA job is a very useful way to make money in Torn. A job generates income and working stats. There is no excuse not to have a job in Torn! You don't have to click on the link for the job points and cash to appear. Jobs also let you steal things in the process or use other specials. And the best thing is, you do not even have to show up! It's effortless, a job is a must have, and extremely easy way of earning cash. With your job you will earn working stats will help you later in Torn when you join a company. You can join a company after you have reached level 3. You can find a job in the Newspaper. A good job for beginners is Grocer, as it will enable you to steal cash from the store. Some argue that casino is an excellent job as well, as it gives you the chance to play more in the casino. Personally, I'd go for the stealing cash, but the choice is yours. If you are looking to gain stats, however, you should consider the army. The pay isn't as good, but the special is great: as a soldier you spend a lot of time training, so you can swap job points for battle stat gains. If you are following the medical careertrack, you will find that you can steal medkits, an excellent benefit, because they get you out of hospital or you can sell them for some good cash. The top rank even enables you to get someone out of the hospital, no matter how long they are in. Missionswithout a doubt the easiest cashmaker. Check How to.. do missions for details. Mugging (by attacking)When you mug someone, you gain some small % of their cash (reported as 1-10%) and the victim goes to hospital for a short time. It might turn against you. Usually not worth the 50 energy unless you find a FAAAAAT one around. Earn Points / VotingUnder "earn points" there are a few offers giving points when you sign up. However, these offers often do not pay. Of course, this may have changed since I tried them, so you could try them. Do use a special spam-email though, as you are likely to receive a lot of stuff you probably don't want. Also, you can get 1 point for voting on TWG. Points sell for about $30,000 each on the market as of November 2006. (Up 50% since July) Auction houseBrowse around looking for low priced goods, as they do appear online from time to time. Bid low prices, and if you are lucky, you can resell it later with some profit. CasinoHigh-n-low: High Low is a card game, where you get presented with a card and you have to pick if the next card will be higher or lower than the shown card. You can make a bet anywhere between $5-$50,000. This is a simple way of making quick money, but will require skill and luck. Craps:You need to have at least 10 tickets to play because a game can be as few as 1 roll or as much as 10. When you roll 7 or 11 you win on first roll. However, if the first roll is not 7 or 11, the score of your first throw is your "point". After this, you can throw ten times trying to get your "point" again. If during these ten throws, you get your point again, you win, otherwise, you lose. Addition by a player who wishes to remain anonymous: StatisticsThe probability of outcome matrix for craps:
In other words, if you get 2 or 12 with white dies, walk. If you get 6 or 8 you have a good chance of winning. If you get 5 or 9 your chances are neither here nor there. Anything else is pot luck and you're most likely to lose money, I.e. the laws of probability are stacked against you. If you don't win money with white dies, the probabilities of a positive vs negative outcome are: Positive outcome: depending on the number in the above table Stock marketPurchase entry into the stock market with 20 points (see City / Points Bldg). To play the stock market, purchase stock tickets as well. Pretty wild and unpredictable place. Don't go to bed without checking your stocks first. Organised CrimesYou may usually earn cash for joining Factions Organised Crimes. Payouts for OC's are listed at the faction reference sheet on this website (use the menu). Travel agencyWhen you reach level 15 and can travel, you may try doing weapons/drugs run from other countries. There are always people who will pay you extra for best weaponry, plushies or stuff like that. ProtectionLower level users might be willing to pay to be protected by you. However, in return you will have to use your energy hitting people that are not even worth the effort for you. Faction protectionLower level factions might be willing to pay you cash to receive protection so they do not get warred for money and respect constantly. Faction ExtortionOf course, you can also just skip the protection thing and extort weaker factions. You either declare on them and then demand money to accept their surrender, or you mail them saying they will be declared on if they do not pay up. Obviously, this is a less honourable way of getting your money. I personally (Wollongong), never declare with the aim of making cash, but if we are at war, I do demand some.
BankAt Level 5 you can begin using the bank (City / Bank). Investments are for 1 week, 2 weeks and 30 days.
Compounded interestThe figure "compounded interest" indicates the profit you would make a year on your initial investment if you would continuously re-invest your initial amount plus any profits made. So, if you invest $100 for 52 one-week periods, you will end up with $ 206,05. The same $ 100 invested for twelve months would walk away with $ 272,11 The interest can be increased by merits. Each merit increases the interest by:
Basically, this means that every merit increases your interest-rate by one-tenth. This system has been implemented in November 2006, reducing the demand for external bankers (to work around the old bank-cap of 5 Million. You can now invest as much as you want! Jail bustsSome people do pay for getting out of jail faster. Check #bust on IRC or search down the jail listings for username strings like "1K4b" (1K for bust) Betting on fightsIRC channel #fights. Here, people go to fight for money. You can participate by stating your level and whether you wish to attack or defend. If a fight has been planned, people will post their bets. If someone wishes to accept it, they say "match " and the bet is on.
If your guy wins, you will get some nice money, if he loses, you have to pay (or you will find yourself hospitalized a LOT...) Signatures makingIf you can make some graphics, try yourself in signature creation business. Signatures are sold for anything from $50K- ... Reviving and spying for moneyMany people will pay to be revived from the hospital (Medical job) or for a talented spy (Army). In order to revive, you need to have the higest rank in the medical field (brainsurgeon). Reviving is simply done by going to the hospital page, finding the patient and then clicking the revive button. Some people, especially those who are in for a very long time, may be willing to pay very good money for it. However, it takes quite a lot of energy... To spy, you need to be in the army (Master Sergeant). Spying costs TC$5000 + 10,000 jobpoints. When taking up jobs like this, I'd recommend to demand payment first if you do not know the employer very well. Sharing housesYou may offer someone in TC to share a house, also sharing the buying cost. And the spouse does not need a second house. Real cash saver. Points marketPop in, buy points if you are lucky enough to find some cheap onses, sell them for higher price later. This will take a lot of time to do.
Finding items in city and selling mission itemsSometimes you find stuff in city, however, these are usually not very valuable. If you do find something good, like a parachute, make sure you contact me (Wollongong [12833]) and I will offer you a nice price for it. Also, you may sell items you get from missions. This is done by starting a mission, getting the item and then aborting the mission. You can always restart the mission, but you get to keep the item which can be sold in the auction house, item market or via #tradingpost (IRC).
Participiating in TC eventsThey usually give cash/points just for participiation. So whenever an event is done... get active! Selling job itemsMorphine, First aid kits, Small first aid kits.. they are all in high demand and can be sold for more than their official "resale value. VirusesYou can program computer viruses if you own a computer and have at least basic programming skill (education). Viruses can be sold on the market or in TC Cyberforce shop, usually the market price is better than the Cyberforce price. Renting out itemsIf you have a good item, like coat hanger or gas can you can rent them for a price. However, there is a risk that you do not get the item back, so always send a message to the guy renting with the terms, so that an admin/sec could get the item back for you if you run into a scammer. Help on Organised CrimeIf you have 30+ nervebar you can help other Factions with their OC outcome. Join the Faction, join the OC, leave the Faction. You stay on the OC list even if you are not with the Faction anymore. This most likely is a bug and might get fixed. Also, there are those in tc claiming that this is actually illegal. So think carefully before doing this.
Rare stuff dealerThis is harder, but once you have enough cash you can go hunting for some rarities for a low price. It is slow but profitable process. HuntingYou can hunt in South Africa. After you hunt you sell the game earning a little cash. From personal experience I say it's not worth it unless you are desperate for cash - higher level GTA brings better cash and you can not train, or do crimes, in Africa. Personally, I got around $2000 maximum for 10 energy. Very much not worth it. Addition: after the March 1st 2007 update, hunting revenue dropped significantly. People who had 89,01 skill reported income to decrease from 70K per hunt to 15K per hunt. Cash for joining a FactionThis might be one time thing, but some Factions actually offer you money if you join. However, I feel that joining a faction for cash is not the right reason. A faction should be about cooperation, not about making you rich.
Selling Donator PacksIf you have some spare dollars in your life this is a fast way to earn good. Currently, US$5-donator packs go for more than 1.2 Million Working as a hitmanJust what the topic says - getting cash for hosping people. Can turn very fast against you, though. Other faction optionsSome Factions pay for leveling up or make contests as well. Some also pay for increasing your stats. Russian rouletteBeat Anonymous in RR contest and receive a Smith&Weston revolver. Or you can buy one on the markets. With it you can challenge other players and win some serious cash. You can lose some serious cash as well FALLEN --SIN--'s way: become a millionaire in 24 hoursWhen short on cash, take a wander over to the auction house and check out goods like defence / primary / secondary / drugs & cars - anything expensive - then look at who's bid how much on what. If someone has bid 3 mil, check their profile, and if you can hack it - mug them!! a nice quick cash-flow solution. From 3 mil you should get at least 30k or so. Inactive players list sellingFound this under some services offered by some TC players - make a list of inactive players, including their battle stats, weapons, mugging possibilities (and ammounts taken). Sell this list to other players. Possibility of good cash.
